The Halloween Handbook : 447 Costumes (Paperback)

Book Description
It's dress-up for grown-ups, and the liveliest, most imaginative collection of Halloween costume ideas--447 costume ideas to be exact--from two hip, inveterate lovers of all things Halloween . . . plus dozens of other ideas for enjoying the holiday.

Bridie Clark and Ashley Dodd are the dynamic duo, in or out of capes. For every level of interest, time--and irony--they offer suggestions. There's the ultra-quick: Pin several pair of underwear to a shirt, and voilà, A Chest of Drawers. With a bit more time, wrap yourself in aluminum foil and don a beret--mmm, French Kiss. There are Angels and Devils, all with variations (add roller skates to your Satan costume, and go as Hell on Wheels). Come Hither costumes--Lady Godiva, Chippendales Dancer, Stripper Emerging from a Cake. Celeb sightings, from the Dalai Lama to Madonna (six Madonnas, actually, from all of her phases). Costumes for couples--Sweethearts Caught on Lover's Lane, Fred and Wilma Flintstone--and costumes for whole groups of friends, including how to appear as the Sopranos or the hapless castaways on Gilligan's Island. And for the children, check out Nursery Rhymes, Fairy Tales, and Other Costumes for the Young and Young at Heart.

Finally, for the friend who just can't bear the thought of dressing up but still wants to join the fun, suggest the Time Traveler from the Day Before Halloween.

About the Author
Bridie Clark lives in New York and works in publishing. Halloween is far and away her favorite holiday--originally for the candy, and now for the once-a-year opportunity to play dress-up. Ashley Dodd lives in New York and works in public relations. Halloween is far and away her favorite holiday--originally for the candy, and now for the once-a-year opportunity to play dress-up.

Review: Showcases 447 do-it-yourself costume concepts
The collaborative effort of Halloween costume experts and enthusiasts Bridie Clark and Ashley Dodd, The Halloween Handbook: Dress-Up For Grown-Ups showcases 447 imaginative, easy-to-make, do-it-yourself costume concepts. From traditional favorites such as Wonder Woman or Peter Pan, to more eyebrow-raising unique costumes like the One-Night Stand (the costumegoer appears as an actual stand with lampshade over the head, bra and pantyhouse dangling on the tablecloth) or the Green Card (wearing a large green sandwich board humorously displaying a parody what a real green card looks like). Black-and-white photographs illustrate fun, zany, sometimes edgy ideas with practical suggestions to efficiently and frugally make a Halloween guise to remember. Especially recommended not only for Halloween, but as a source of ideas for costume parties year round or even school and community theater apparel.

As with the other books in the Singer series, this one offers great step-by-step instructions and detailed color photos that are fairly easy to follow and yield very polished results. Construction comes in three basic styles: tabards, gowns, and full-suit costumes, as well as detailed directions on making various types of headwear, capes, collars, skirts, wings, leggings, and shoe covers. Though the costume ideas are a bit on the ordinary side (pumpkin, spaceman, lion, king and queen, and the like), the terrific instructions can be adapted to unlimited costume designs of your own devising. --Amy Handy--This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Review: Easy costume sewing
This is a great book. The directions were extremely easy to follow and could be easily altered if you wanted something a little different. This book is good for novice as well as advance sewers.

Review" Prrrfect booook for the costume inclined!
From kids to adults, everyone loves being someone (or someTHING!) else for Halloween. Singleton's book provides a wealth of ideas and resources, and the interior illustrations, photographs, and black-and-orange two-color printing make for a very attractive product.

Review: Fun! Fun! Fun!

The book makes it so easy to put together and understand! In this day of rush, rush, rush, its so wonderful to have a book that makes life simple. Thank you for such a great tool!

Review: Clever Costume Creating for Halloween
I found this book to be very enlightning for ideas on creating Halloween costumes. It is full of so many good tips, many requiring a minimal amount of effort in putting together a costume. I would recommend this book to many, both young and old and particularly to parents who every year need to come up with a new and unique costume for their children to dress for Halloween.

Review: Clever Costume Creating for Halloween
Suzanne Singleton has certainly outdone herself on this release. Clever Costume Creating for Halloween is jam-packed with unique ideas for easy to make, NO SEW costumes. The illustrations help you visualize the overall effect and the instructions are packed with appropriate props and accessories.

Although I am an artist and consider myself to be pretty creative, when it comes to Halloween costumes I go blank. The creative part of me wants to do something original, unique. I definitely could never bring myself to buy those mass produced, plastic-masked versions available in the stores. When I flipped through Suzanne Singleton's book, my mind began to race with all the possiblities. I found myself thinking, "Why didn't I think of that? This is sooooooo clever!" Now my only problem is choosing which idea to try first!

Review: FUN & EASY NO SEW COSTUME Ideas w/visuals!
This title had just been published a view days when I purchased it. If you are like me and love Halloween but panic at the thought of what to be? what to wear? This is for you! Singleton has written a book with A to Z costume ideas that are fun and refreshing and all NO SEW!

What you also receive with this book purchase are pages filled with fun to view black and white visuals of the costume ideas. The pages are bordered with corn candy and various halloween graphics which only adds to the fun and festive halloween spirit.

Year after year, my husband and I along with our children are invited to dress up Halloween costume parties. These parties are usually fun and yet I am always feeling pressure for myself and my family. What to do? Like many women of today, I do not sew which only adds to my frustration. Well now here is the perfect remedy, this title is not only packed with fun and easy costume ideas but each page is sure to bring a smile with each costume visual!

FamilyFun Tricks and Treats: 100 Wickedly Easy Costumes, Crafts, Games & Foods (Hardcover)

There are a number of Halloween books out on the market for decorating, baking and costume making, but this is one of the few that actually has something new in it!

The crafts are clever, but actually look doable wtih things you might already have on hand. The costumes ideas are fun and innovative, the food ideas are also really cute, but not overly-complicated. While some classic ideas never die, this book puts a nice twist on things like "body parts" games.

Of course, the ideas come from the monthly magazine that Disney produces, Family Fun, and if you get the magazine, you'll have already seen alot of these things in print or on their website. Still, the book is nicely layed-out, easy to flip through and a good resource of party and costume ideas for both kids and their grown-ups.

Review: Very Pleased
This book is an awesome resource for make-at-home costumes and decorations. The ideas are so cute, easy to follow, and where else can you find a recipe for slime?

Review: Great Ideas
This was great! My daughter & I love Halloween and when we saw this we bought it right away. There are so many wonderful ideas. A must have! There were a lot of spooky things to do with foods and great little ideas for those little helpers to decorate your home with lots of memories! You have to get this one!

Illegally Easy Halloween Costumes for Kids (Paperback)

Review: Best Halloween costume book on the market!
This is a beautiful book and so user-friendly! It was great to avoid frantically running around from store to store, since this book has such simple patterns and shortcuts where you don't even have to sew, as well as last-minute panic solutions. The 100 different costume choices (from well-known bunnies, pirates and witches to the amusing gingerbread house, octopus, swamp monster) will last the Halloween life of my kids (and probably their kids too!), making this book quite the bargain. Making and creating the costumes was a fun family project and encouraged everyone's imagination. I like the idea that a portion of the proceeds of the book go to UNICEF.

Review: A quality and user frendly book
I have made the squeleton costume for my 5 years old and it was a success. It was a great initiation to costume making for me.It also is easy to understand and do by them selfs for older kids.It is our favorite bedtime story.

Review: Creative inspiration with Ah Ha! tips that anyone can do,
Sam (age 5) and Kate (age 3) have been so excited about this book "reading" every page over and over and taking it to bed with them! Kate has memorized the names of each costume and has been able to ask for and describe a combination of costumes that she has imagined for herself!

This book is wonderful for inspiring creative imagination and the costume tips and patterns ARE easy and versatile enough for you to whip up an original costume with very simple inexpensive ingredients or with whatever you have in the house even at the very last minute!

I am very proud of Sam, who after much gleeful "study" of this book with his sister, decided to make his own costume modifying one of the ideas in this book - how satisfying for him to march in his school costume parade wearing an original costume that started from an idea from this book and made pretty much all by himself (hey, no sewing, or even glue gun needed for that one!) I'm sure we will get lots more year round dress-up inspiration from this truly "Illegally Easy Halloween Costumes for Kids" book to come... my mind is already brewing up some winter dress-up Birthday Party ideas!

Review: Showcases one hundred easy-to-make costumes
In Illegally Easy Halloween Costumes For Kids, Halloween costume designer Leila Peltosaari showcases one hundred easy-to-make costumes complete with matching treat bags and accessories. The simple, step-by-step instructions are enhanced with detailed full-color photos and illustrations. The color-coded, easy patterns for 3 to 12 year olds are well-organized and feature a wealth of "no-sew" shortcuts and "last-minute" solutions. Highly recommended for even the most novice costumer, Illegally Easy Halloween Costumes For Kids is enhanced further with a history of Halloween, safety tips, and anecdotal background stories. With designs ranging from traditional and storybook characters to animals and clowns, to celestial beings and cultural tributes, most of the costumes can be assembled without a sewing machine and in only one evening. Many of the costumes are made form Polarfleece (a perfect Halloween fabric which is soft and lightweight, slightly stretchy, warm, versatile, with no hemming or seam finished needed -- and hotglues like a dream!). Although specifically targeted for the Halloween holiday, these are delightful outfits that can well serve for costume parties and school plays at any time of year!

Review: Outstanding
Illegally Easy Halloween Costumes for Kids is the best I have seen on this topic. The full color photographs of the costumes, complete with makeup, are spectacular. The directions are thorough and easy to follow. Any of these costumes would be a terrific for Halloween and the ideas could also be used for making costumes for plays or other productions. At the price of store bought costumes or patterns, this book is a bargain, as it contains 100 costumes and many additional ideas. You won't be disappointed!

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)

Perfect for After-School Viewing in October
I bought this one last year to show at a Halloween Party I planned for my daughters. It was a HUGE hit with all the kids, as well as the adults.
It brings back memories for the adults, and creates new ones for the kids.
I recommend getting this one to show during October leading up to Halloween. It will help get the kids excited leading up to Halloween and trick or treating.

Review: Embarrassed!!!
Opps, I am so embarrassed, but it was worth it. That was my thoughts when I realized that I spent my entire lunch period watching "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." You see I am a black male, 37 years old and an 8th Grade middle school teacher. When it was announced that there would be a showing during my lunch period in the school's library, I immediately grabbed my lunch and sat amist 20 children, hushed them and we ENJOYED. Thanks Mr. Schultz for years of memory and laughter.

Review: STILL A HOLIDAY CLASSIC!!!
Hard to believe that this Halloween classic is nearly 40 years. i still enjoy watching it almost as much as I did as a kid in the 1960's and 1970's.

It bums me out that Charlie Brown isn't as popular among children today as it was to my generation but I'm grateful that i can count on seeing this along with "A Charlie Brown Christmas" every year.

Of course it's our favorite antics of the peanuts gang...going out trick-or-treating and then going to a Halloween party later. it still makes me laugh whenever Charlie Brown says "I got a Rock!"

And of course there's Lucy flying into a panic when kissed by Snoopy and Linus spneding the night in a Pumpkin Patch, awaiting the arrival of the Great Pumpkin to bring him presents.

Dated? Oh..perhaps...but at the same time Charlie Brown is also timeless which is why this still is shown every year while other holiday specials have long been forgotten.

Review: A CLASSIC CLASSIC!
A true treat for an October night. This is a show for all to see. This show brings back some memories of running around getting candy, playing in the fall leaves, and wishing the sixties would never end. A DVD for all to own.

Review: Dated, Yet Still Tons of Fun; A True Classic!

Yes, you read correctly: four stars. Not five. Why, might you ask? Am I crazy? No, I am not. At least I don't think I am :)
I am a huge fan of Peanuts. Every year, I look forward to the holiday specials on television. IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN is one of them. Yet, I must admit: much like A CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING and IT'S THE EASTER BEAGLE, CHARLIE BROWN, this show is kind of dated. I do still love it -- the characters and classic Peanuts gags we have all come to cherish. But truth be told, the animation in these earlier specials is sort of crude and the timing between a lot of the dialogue is very very very offbeat. So much so that it can actually get boring at times.

Yet I still love them. There is just something about these shows that we can all relate to again and again. Yes, the later films, tv shows and specials are all better drawn, and the timing is right on the dot; and some have a much smoother feel.

But these, I think, contain a certain nostalgic feeling. And that's why they are "classics."

Review: Still Great All These Decades Later!,
What's not to like about this treasured Halloween "Peanuts" tale? There's the fabulous piano music score. ... Linus and his blanket keeping watch in the nearby pumpkin patch, awaiting the infamous "Great Pumpkin". ... Sally getting gypped out of "Tricks or Treats". ... Snoopy dueling the Red Baron atop his doghouse. ... And, of course, the hilarity (and sadness at the same time) of watching Charlie Brown accumulate a bagful of rocks on Halloween Night.
These indelible set-pieces make up one of the most endearing, and timeless, holiday classics ever broadcast on television.

"It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown", first telecast way back in 1966, will forever be a holiday favorite...whether it be on broadcast TV (remember the original TV commercials for Coca-Cola, McDonald's, and Dolly Madison Cakes?), VHS Video, or DVD.

Now ... if only some kindly neighbor could just toss a Snicker's Bar (or maybe even a fresh Dolly Madison Cupcake) into Charlie Brown's bag, I think we'd all feel better. :-)

Review: Charlie Brown is one of the iconic figures of our time,
Charlie Brown is one of the iconic figures of our time, and now that his great creator is no longer with us, we must content ourselves by enjoying hugely enjoyable videos like this one. When you next have a Peanuts nostalgia evening, buy this video and watch it with all your friends!

Review: It's Great Fun, Charlie Brown
After the Emmy-award-winning "A Charlie Brown Christmas", Charles Schulz brought another holiday to life with Peanuts fun and amazing real-world accuracy. Somehow none of what makes Halloween great are lacking in these thirty minutes--a pile of leaves to run into, costumes to wear, and treats to get. And who can forget Lucy and her apple-bobbing experience? Of course the real appeal is waiting with Linus in the pumpkin patch, even after a certains girl's smitten grows into disdain, and hoping the Great Pumpkin arrives. Some have waited with Linus each year since this presentation first appeared in 1966!

Review: Absolutely wonderful!
I am so thrilled to have "It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" on DVD. This brings back many happy childhood memories.
The DVD quality is very nice and includes a bonus, "You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown".
For Peanuts fans of all ages, this is a must have :)

This is a super DVD. It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is a classic holiday special. This is such a classic episode. This episode is super. It's fun hearing Linus talking about the Great Pumpkin.
The bonus feature You're Not Elected Charlie Brown is a super episode. Linus runs for student body president. This is a super episode.

I just love this DVD it is just great!

Review: Now you don't have to wait every year for this special.,
Have you heard of dvd, and wonder what dvd looks like, have you seen cds or games for computers like Gateway2000? If you have, that is what a dvd looks like, and in my opinion the best thing about dvds is, that when you come to the end of a movie or (have a favorite part in a movie) you don't even have to rewind the dvd or even fast foward from the end to the begining or rewind or fast foward to your favorite part. Charlie Brown (Peter Robbins) has got an invation to a halloween party and he and most of the other kids are going trick or treating and then to the halloween party. Expect for Charlie Brown's best freind Linus (Chris Shea) and Charlie brown's little sister (Katy Steinberg) remain in the pumkin patch waiting for the Great Pumkin. Linus (of course) is the only one of the kids that believes in the Great Pumkin and everybody (expect for Charlie Brown's little sister) laughs at Linus and tells him the Great Pumkin is a f-a-k-e. If you are a nig Peanuts fan this is just the special to buy and watch every halloween.

Review: The #1 Halloween Classic!,
The Halloween Special never caught on quite as strongly as the Christmas Special over the past few decades, but there was a time when they were something many of us looked forward to annually, and today some of them are now considered just as much classics as their Christmas counterparts. There was the Garfield Halloween Special, the live-action specials "The Worst Witch" and "The Halloween That Almost Wasn't" (known as `The Night Dracula Saved the World' on VHS), Bugs Bunny's Halloween Special, "Raggedy Ann and Andy and the Pumpkin Who Couldn't Smile," and a few others. The king of the Halloween Specials, of course, was the 1960`s classic, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!"

It's Halloween, and everyone is getting ready to go trick or treating, followed by the big Halloween party at Violet's house. Somehow, Charlie Brown has recieved an invitation too! Everyone is excited! But Linus has different plans. Linus is a firm believer in The Great Pumpkin, Halloween's answer to Santa Claus. It seems that every Halloween Night, the Great Pumpkin flies through the sky in search of the most sincere pumpkin patch around, and when he finds it, the lucky kids who are waiting there for him will get tons of presents and candy! Everyone thinks Linus must be crazy! But Charlie Brown's little sister, Sally, has a huge crush on Linus, and has decided to take a chance on him. She agrees to give up trick or treats and spend the night sitting in the pumpkin patch with Linus, waiting for The Great Pumpkin to arrive.
"It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," is loads of Halloween fun with our favorite group of sassy comic strip kids. Snoopy performs his legendary WW1 reenactments, Lucy is meaner than ever, and Charlie Brown couldn't be Charlie Brownier. Who else could get nothing but rocks when trick or treating? The DVD is great, with a bonus Charlie Brown Special to boot! "You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown!" In this special, Linus suggests that Charlie Brown should run for class president, but when Lucy takes a poll, it appears that Linus would have a much better chance. The Peanuts gang immediately sets to work on getting Linus elected, but it seems that the Great Pumpkin will ruin yet another day in Linus' life in the end. It's a fun little special, but nowhere near as wonderful as "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!" Pick this one up for the feature presentation, but stick around for the extra!

Review: You the Man, Charlie Brown.
When you think of Halloween movies, there really aren't many Halloween movies that the whole family can watch and enjoy. Most Halloween pictures are horror movies not suitable for anyone younger than sixteen. There's GHOSTBUSTERS, but many parents won't let young children watch that because the ghosts are too scary. E.T. takes place at Halloween, but nobody really considers E.T. to be a Halloween movie. The only Halloween picture that the whole family can enjoy is the little 30 minute cartoon that was made for television, IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN.
Out of all the Charlie Brown cartoon specials, this one probably focuses on Charlie the least. Instead, the central character is Linus VanPelt and his sincere and patient wait for The Great Pumpkin. They sure don't make them like this anymore.

The DVD includes the bonus feature, YOU'RE NOT ELECTED, CHARLIE BROWN. The class election is about to be held and Linus thinks Charlie would be a great class president. However, Lucy takes a poll and finds that only 2% of the student body would even consider voting for Chuck. But a lot of people think Linus would make a good president. That is until he makes a speech the day before the election about The Great Pumpkin. The cartoon isn't as memorable as IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN, but with it's focus more on Linus and reference to the Great Pumpkin, it makes a nice supplement.

Review: Passing Snoopy and the gang on to my children
A couple of months ago, I asked my oldest sons, ages 6 and 4, if they wanted to watch "Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown". They didn't know who or what I was talking about. I was amazed... and disappointed... and determined to remedy it! So I taped that movie off the TV-- and was extremely pleased to discover this DVD ... recently. I watched it every year growing up- and now my kids have the oppotunity to watch it as often as they desire. This is good, wholesome fun- the kind we grew up with. Not violent, not R-rated... just good, clean fun- and the kids love it! For those of you who have seen it- share it with your kids. For those who haven't- start a new tradition. DVD's are especially nice for those with children- no rewinding, and they can be watched over and over and over again.

Review: One of the great Halloween cartoons of all time
I am an unabashed fan of the work of Charles M. Schulz, and this ranks as the second-greatest "Peanuts" cartoon (the Christmas film being the first and best). It's Halloween and the Peanuts gang goes out Trick-or-Treating... everyone, that is, except Linus and Sally. Linus is going to spend another Halloween sitting in a pumpkin patch, waiting for the Great Pumpkin to rise up with his bag of presents -- and this year, he's convinced poor Sally to hold the lonely vigil with him.
I've always loved the disparity of the Peanuts characters -- Linus is clearly the most intelligent character in Charlie Brown's universe, yet somehow he made a fundamental error in his understandings of Halloween and Christmas. But it's all to the good, because that classic blunder has made for one of the most beloved Halloween films ever.

This cartoon is 36 years old and holds up like it was made yesterday. The characters are still brilliant, beautiful and universal. Watch this with your kids, watch it for yourself... just watch it.

Review: Classic Holiday Fun -
I can't remember a year when I never got to see IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN during the Halloween season, and this, by far, is a must-own DVD for family entertainment during that time of year. It's even fun to watch year-round. I've seen it so many times in my 25 years that I pretty much know the dialogue. Do you?
This short movie features Linus and his obsession with the Great Pumpkin (a similarity to Santa) who arises out of the most sincere pumpkin patches and distributes toys to all the good kids...ESPECIALLY those who keep faith in the Great Pumpkin. Sally is intrigued (and infatuated with Linus) and decides to sit all night in the pumpkin patch with him. While this is going on, Charlie Brown, Lucy, Violet, Pig Pen and the gang go trick-or-treating and then to a Halloween party. Snoopy gets into a few misadventures himself, disguised as the WWI Flying Ace. Later that night, Linus and Sally see something in the pumpkin patch...is it the Great Pumpkin? Well, if you haven't seen it by now, I'll let you find out for yourself.

Definitely one of the most highly recommended family Halloween videos, next to Garfields Halloween Adventure (if this will ever become available again in the future - and hopefully so). This is just one of those movies that will always be a favorite; great characters, spooky music and just overall hilarious. I see it every Halloween and never get bored of it. The DVD edition comes with a bonus film "You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown". Highly recommend...enjoy, and have a Happy Halloween!

Review: Who can honestly say they don't like the Peanuts Gang?
I grew-up with this wonderful animated story ..., and I must admit, the magic is still there for me. Even given the fact that, this home-video presentation of a CBS classic lacks flow, due to the fact that, the commercial breaks have been removed, its storytelling works like a charm! Scenes with Snoopy fighting the Red Baron are truly avant-grade, very much like other experimental animation and graphic design of the 1960's; Inviting to the imagination. Perhaps, you might invite your children to expand their imagination as Snoopy does... "Imagining he's a World War One flying Ace..." As a whole, its actually a very tight story structure that, I defy adults to take issue with.

Review: One of the very best "Peanuts" shows
I always admired Charles Schultz for showing that kids are really just small people, that within their limited range of experience they love, laugh, suffer and worry as much as their parents. This show was always particularly special to me for showing that many rituals and religious symbols can be traced to more earthbound origins, and that one should be careful what one tells an impressionable child. That being said, one of the more whimsical things about "The Great Pumpkin" is that you always wonder where Linus heard this fable, not why he believes in it so deeply. A great cartoon show for the ages.

Review: Doesn't anything ever go right for Charlie Brown?
Poor Charlie Brown. He gets rocks in his bag and once again theweight of the world is pushing down on him. This is another classic from Charles Schultz. As usual he is able to draw us in to Charlie's world and let us sympathise with him. At some point in all of our lives we have felt like Charlie.
Along with "A Charlie Brown Christmas", no home should be without this video. The story is so pure that any child under 99 will love it.

Review: THE best Halloween movie ever made!
There are Christmas movies all over the place. But try to find a good Halloween movie. Oh yes, you found this one. All your favorite Charles Schultz characters are in this film and they are just as you remember them. You have quit a few surprises in store.
Just anticipating the Great Pumpkin is worth the price. You will want to watch it each year.

Review: A classic, but...
Having not seen this for a number of years, I was excited to view it again a couple of years ago. I was in a way disappointed. All of the scenes with Charlie Brown and the gang are great, but the Red Baron scenes tend to go on a bit long for my tastes. But don't let that dissuade you. This belongs in every Halloween video library.

Review: Classic Peanuts
I didn't grow up watching this cartoon every year on TV. In fact, I just saw it for the first time last year. However, I liked it immediately because of my love for the Peanuts gang.
There are several story threads, but no one overall story. The gang's plans for Halloween night are interspersed with scenes of Snoopy being a WWI Flying Ace and Charlie Brown trying to kick the football because he has a signed note from Lucy. (Classic line - "It's not notarized.") Charlie Brown cuts too many holes in his ghost sheet, gets rocks in his bag, and becomes a model for a pumpkin face. Meanwhile, Linus and Sally await the Great Pumpkin.

Also on the DVD is You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown. This one follows a more unified story of Linus trying to become student body president. Things are going well, until he starts talking about the Great Pumpkin.

The DVD offers no extra beyond these two classic TV specials. The picture is sharp and the sound is great, however.

This DVD belongs in any Peanuts fan's library.

Review: nostalgic fun...,
it's short and there isn't much to it, but the nostalgia factor alone makes it a five-star. What's not to love? - the World War One Flying Ace seeks to outwit the Red Baron, Lucy as a witch (no irony there), a bagfull of rocks for Charlie Brown, and another Great Pumkinless Hallowe'en for Linus...

Review: Wonderful Halloween Cartoon!! =),
This Peanuts gang movie is really funny. The way the plot is set up, the comic action during the part whrer Snoopy is in his plane, using his arms for missles. He's so...dignified and an officer that you can't resist.
Also, Linus and the Great Pumpkin is really funny, because of all his talking, waiting, and so on. You just can't miss this movie!

Review: A Halloween Favorite
Since I was a kid, I've enjoyed seeing this fun cartoon, and I'm sure your kids will enjoy it also. This show has it all, light suspense, action, adventure, and loads of laughs. This is the kind of film you'd enjoy watching with your kids while downing some popcorn and soda. It will put them on the edge of their seats, especially when Linus and Sally think the Great Pumpkin is rising out of the pumpkin patch. There's loads of laughs as Charlie Brown's head is used to draw a picture of what the Jack-O-Lantern should look like, and as he goes to each house hoping for a delectable treat only to get a rock. Snoopy has a really cool dream of being a Flying Ace who battles it out with the infamous Red Baron. Then, there's the Halloween party where you get to see the Peanuts gang and their rather funky dance moves. This is a great video to watch for the entire family and what makes it even better is the fact that, unlike most cartoons today where you can hardly set your eyes on one scene before it quickly changes to another, this one gives you time to look at the scene. It's very colorful, very entertaining.

Review: THE best Halloween cartoon ever made!
"It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is a classic that never grows old! Charlie Brown, Sally, Lucy, Linus, Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang gear up for another Halloween full of adventure and "tricks or treats." Oh, lets not forget the infamous football kick. As "tricks or treats" go, Lucy, Violet, & Pigpen rack up and of course, poor 'ole Charles gets nothing but a bag of rocks. Sally, consumed by her love for Linus, decides to skip "tricks or treats" and sit out in the punkin' patch w/ him to catch a glimpse of the Great Pumpkin. Snoopy, a World War 1 flying ace out on his dawn patrol, ensues the Red Barron to shoot him down. After the trick or treating, it's time for the Halloween party. In the end, Sally is furious and Linus is left in disbelief as another Halloween passes by without a visit from the GP. Lucy awakes in the wee hours of the morning to find her "blockhead brother" shivering and asleep in the patch. As any big sister would do, she brings Linus in and puts him to bed.

This 1966 Charles Shultz phenomenon is so enjoyable, I can't hardly wait for Fall each year so I can pull it out. My brother and I grew up watching this every year. Call me a grown-up kid, but it gives me such a warm, cozy feeling inside. Brings back those cherished memories of being a child and the excitment that Halloween always brought. I can't wait until my nephew is old enough to discover "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." Another wonderful joy is the music of Vince Guaradli. As with all the Peanuts cartoons, he composed and performed all of the musical scores. The world of jazz is opened to all who listen and watch. "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is one of those simple little joys in life, as are "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas." If you don't own them, get them. I don't know how anyone could be disappointed! I just love it!

Review: Must see, should own
You cannot be well versed in our society without a knowledge of the Great Pumpkin. This is part of the Charlie Brown trinity. It forms part of our modern heritage.

Review: A Classic - Sally and Linus Sittin' In A Pumpkin Patch ...,
"It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is indeed a Charile Brown classic for all ages, child and adult alike. I never tire of watching it every Halloween, and have for over twenty years.
Charlie Brown prepares to go trick-or-treating, dressed as a ghost with many, many eye holes - classic Charlie Brown. Linus, for weeks has been drumming up his belief that the Great Pumpkin will arrive this Halloween and give out treats and presents to all good boys and girls - a take off, of sorts, of Santa Claus.

The only one who believes him, and ultimately sits the whole night with Linus, is Sally, his adoring sweetheart.

While the Peanuts gang go off trick-or-treating, (all Charlie Brown gets are rocks), Linus and Sally wait ... and wait ... and wait ...

Snoppy has his own adventure; dressed as a WW1 flying ace, he dreams of having it out with the infamous Red Baron. A wonderful scene, which has him being shot down over France, and trying desperately to make his way home.

In the meantime, Linus and Sally are still waiting for the Great Pumpkin. As it becomes later at night, Sally begins to speculate. Still, her devotion to Linus keeps her at his side. And yet, it gets later and later until the Peanuts Gang return with bags filled with all sorts of goodies. Sally drools over the treats, soon becoming angry with Linus, and herself, that she sat all night in this pumpkin patch for nothing. She finally stands and has it out with poor Linus, and leaves, disgusted with herself.

Linus continues to wait for the Great Pumpkin, fearful he has done something to offend him, and thinking this is why he has not shown up.

"It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is one of the great Charlie Brown classics that has endured nearly forty years, and will continue to endure for years to come, entertaining many future generations of children - and their parents.

Dora the Explorer - Dora's Halloween

Review: Trick or Treat- Fun for all
My daughter loves Dora the Explorer. She is only 22 months old and can sing most of the songs. Dora has helped her to learn new words- some of them spanish. This DVD has four really good episodes. I was a little apprehensive to buy a holiday themed Dora - But, I am glad I did. The first episode the Halloween one, had my daughter singing Trick or Treat, and dancing- this one has good songs. There is a episode about Baby Dino - and saying dinosauer. The last episode is Por Favor - So guess what my daughter was saying. It is hard to find this many good episode on one DVD. Enjoy.

Review: Another hit by the makers of Dora the Explorer!
My family is not big on Halloween, in fact my husband really does not like it at all, but he absolutely loved this movie. It has such cute songs on it, and the costumes are just so cute! The other three episodes are also very good, and my daughter loved all of them. I am glad that I had the chance to share this DVD with her. I hope everyone enjoys this DVD.

Review: Very cute!
The Halloween episode is so cute and my 2 1/2 year old boy loves it. I'd much rather him watch stuff like this than the new stuff that is out like Yu Gi Oh..YUCK!

The other three episodes arnt about Halloween but are still cute Dora cartoons.

Review: Dora's halloween
I was very happy with the Dora halloween dvd. I have been trying to find movies to sort of introduce halloween to my 18 month old. Well I dont know if it has helped introduce halloween to him but he cant stop talking about dora. Dora this and dora that! Its all he wants to watch now. He has many diferent volumes as well.

Review: spooky dora
As always Dora is great. I was happily surprized at how much spanish they use in this movie. good halloween fun, not scary

Review: Great Adventure with Dora and friends!!!
I bought this DVD for my daughter Amanda~~a tried and true Dora fanatic!!!! She LOVED the Episode "Boo" I, however, had one problem with it, which resulted in me giving it only 4 stars rather than 5.....In the "Boo" episode, Dora and Boots happen upon a little monster. They invite him to go trick or treating with them, the only catch is, the lil monster must be home by the time both hands on the clock are on the 12. Last time I checked, when it's dark outside, that would mean that they are out trick or treating until 12AM!!!!!! Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a night of trick or treating fun, but the preschoolers tht I know are pretty much finished trick or treating after around 9pm! Besides that, this DVD is one of Dora's better ones! Amanda loves it!

Review: Pretty good, but not perfect
First, be warned...only one of the four 20-minute Dora episodes on this DVD has anything to do with Halloween. The first segment is about Halloween and my two year old loves it! But the remainder of the episodes, including one about a wizard who is missing his wand, are just average. But I still give it four stars just because the Halloween episode is so good.

SpongeBob SquarePants - Halloween (1999)

Amazon.com
Halloween boasts a full hour of deep-sea spooks featuring Nickelodeon's jolly sponge with the cubical trousers. In "Scaredy Pants" easy-to-scare SpongeBob attempts to come up with the scariest costume ever--and exceeds beyond his wildest dreams. "Imitation Krabs" concerns Plankton's evil robotic plan to trick SpongeBob into revealing Mr. Krab's secret krabby patty recipe. "Frankendoodle," a spoof on Frankenstein, has SpongeBob drawing a self-portrait with a magical pencil he found. It proceeds to come to life, wreaking havoc all over Bikini Bottom. SpongeBob turns into a "snailcat" in "I Was a Teenage Gary" when he's accidentally injected with pet Gary's medicine. And in "Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost," SpongeBob and pal, Patrick the starfish, mistake his grumpy talcum powder-covered neighbor for a grown-up Casper. The educational value may be minimal, but the humor quotient is high in these five installments of the popular series. For ages 6 and up. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Review: This is a HUGE guilty pleasure
Because I watch a two-year-old girl almost every single day, I'm practically forced to watch cartoons on an endless basis. And while most of them are tedious to bare through, I find Spongebob Squarepants to be very entertaining for BOTH kids and adults! Don't expect this to be an educational show but rather something to laugh to if you're down or just feel like chuckling at some stupid, mindless jokes... I've been addicted to this show for quite some time now but had never seen a halloween episode before, so the second that I saw this on video I snatched it up and bought it as quickly as I could. And while all of these episodes are great, I was rather disappointed at my realization of how the newer DVD version had 5 extra episodes and how only one of the episodes was an actual halloween one!

I absolutely love watching Spongebob Squarepants (especially when the evil Plankton is present) but I've honestly seen funnier ones than these before. And while I find this collection of shows to be a minor let-down, I do recommend this for "Squidward, the Unfriendly Ghost".

Review: My kids LOVED this DVD!
Spongebob Squarepants is one of those rare shows (like Samurai Jack and Powerpuff Girls) that's as entertaining for me as it is for the kids. This DVD has become a favorite among the members of our family, and it has been a staple for car trips (we highly recommend those Toshiba TV/DVD sets for the car!). --This text refers to the DVD edition

Review: What's This? Napping on the Job?
You know how some episodic DV Dees creep up on you one episode at a time, and some gather all their episodes and hit you like a fist? Well, not only did SpongeBob Square Pants Halloween hit me like a fist, but it also burst through the ceiling of all expectations (funny and absurd) to emerge as my all time fave SpongeBob DVD!!!!! (Until the next one.)
But seeing as I only have practically 90 episodes to go until I've seen all, that's no big surprise. But as Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost would moan, "Enoooough! Listen uuuupp......"

Scaredy Pants.
It's Halloween in Bikini Bottom, and SpongeBob has quite simply had enough of everybody scaring him. Now it's his turn for a pay back! And what better to be than a round ghost imitation of the Flying Dutchman in clogs? (Even though Squidward's pirate wear looks more realistic.) But he just isn't scaring anybody. Maybe a visit from the real Dutchman would be in order? The ending is hilarious, so all in all a good ep. - 8 outta 10.

Imitation Krabs.
SpongeBob's on constant lookout for Plankton and his schemes to steal the formula. So when he gets Squidward and Krabs out of the way (a day off and a rolling penny) and steps into a robo Krabs (reminds one of Krab Borg in a way), it's all the more confusing for the perky fry cook. Maybe 6 and a half hours of constant testing should be enough to wear the fake Krabs down... or is it? Though confusing, it eventually gets me on the uptake. - 7 outta 10.

Franken Doodle.
When a giant pencil falls into Bikini Bottom, naturally SpongeBob and Patrick are very enthusiastic. They manage to have a lot of fun with that pencil (Squidward even gets hair!!!!!!!) until the dreaded Sponge Doodle is drawn. He and the pencil now wreak havoc around Bikini Bottom. Will SpongeBob live to tell the tale, or will he meet the sharp (or worse, rounded rubber) end of the evil magic pencil? Sponge Doodle's language is vulgar, so I couldn't understand half of it. But still pretty good. - 7 outta 10.

I Was a Teenage Gary.
Squidward's "volunteered" to watch Gary for SpongeBob while he goes to a jelly fishing convention with Patrick for a long weekend. But 3 days of neglect is too much for the poor pet. So SpongeBob's shocked to walk in and find Gary half-dead. Squidward has to give Gary a shot with snail serum (the doc's too squeamish), but due to SpongeBob's carelessness, pricks him on the nose. Eventually, another snail is added to the populace... or even 2 if Squidward has anything to do with it? Catch the hilarious "mew the miaw miaow" ending. Meoooow, meooow, meow meow-meow meow... - 9 outta 10.

Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost.
Accidentally straying from an active game outside, a throwing shell accidentally lodges into the head of a wax Squidward (apparently it helps conquer all artistic media). Poor SpongeBob and Patrick do everything they can to save it, but to no avail. The problem is, they think it's the real Squidward, so they're shocked when a white (real) Squidward emerges from the bathroom. Now this is either time to evacuate the town... or for Squidward to have a little revenge on the uptake... if you know what I mean. A fantastic episode. Squid, can't get enough of him! - 10 outta 10.

The Secret Box.
It's small. It's a box. It's a small box. But inside is the Best Secret Ever! And SpongeBob will go to any lengths to get it. Even sneak under Patrick's rock. It may ruin a friendship they've had for such a long time and even made a Best Friends Forever club ring for, but he'll do it. I mean, what if it's an embarrassing snapshot of him at the Christmas party? Suspenseful, but not so much it kills me. - 7 outta 10.

Band Geeks.
Let's face it, Squidward's kinda always had a dream to be a world famous musician. So he isn't likely to pass up a chance to perform, at the Bubble Bowl, with his arch rival from high school and band class Squilliam Fancyson watching, in a hurry. The problem? He doesn't have a band. So he recruits everyone in Bikini Bottom at short notice. Will the band flop and crush Squidward's one chance of happiness into little tiny bite-size pieces, or will it be a sweet sweet victory? Genius. Pure genius. Addicted from first watch. - 20 outta 10 (I tried to make the rating meter bigger, it was that good!)

Welcome to the Chum Bucket.
When it comes to cards, Mr Krab's always taken Plankton to the cleaners. But one unlucky slip means that he lost the one thing that matters... SpongeBob's contract. A devastated SpongeBob is transported to the Chum Bucket, but won't make a single patty. Not even after an exact replica of the Krusty Krab kitchen, vibrating slippers, a pony ride, a bedtime story... Touching in the end. - 8 outta 10.

My Pretty Seahorse.
SpongeBob likes spring. Understatement. So you can believe his luck when he finds and tames a wild seahorse he calls Mystery. (Well, it was Mystery, Grace or Debbie.) But as it turns out, the Krusty Krab is no place for bucking broncos that eat every thing in sight. So it's either hide Mystery in the kitchen, or CowBob RanchPants gets fired! Once again, a touching episode, but only due to the bowl of onions on the desk. - 8 outta 10.

The Idiot Box.
Normally when it comes to ordering stuff, you play with the thing inside and throw away the outside. But in SpongeBob and Patrick's case, they throw away the inside, a brand new screen TV, and play in the outside, a box. Squidward is not amused or interested... until an avalanche starts in the middle of the box! How do they make all these sound effects? Is it the (makes rainbow shape with hands) imaaaaaginaaaationnnnnnnnnnn or perhaps, something more? Only one way for Squidward to find out... Totally funny, too cool, and if you don't find the racing car ending hilarious, you really haven't lived! - 10 outta 10.

Wait, I'm getting something...
Yeah. Apparently, Squidward's ghost is feeling unusually generous today. He has decided to spare ye a horrible fate if ye really don't like SpongeBob. (sssssssssssssssssissssss.)
So at least try this DVD out, and if ye do not liketh it, there is an alternative. All you must do is tend to my every whim, and tickle my fancy on command...
Now get this DVD. Now. Or thou shalt unleash the horrible wrath of Squiiiiidwaaaard........
(I think they make a cream for that now.) --This text refers to the DVD edition

Review: Don't be a Scaredy Pants, buy the Season Sets!
First of all, understand that the content itself is 5 stars easy...it's Spongebob! The 3 stars is simply because these collections aren't as cool as the Season sets. The second release in the continuous line of Spongebob "themed" (compilation) DVDs, Halloween, includes 10 episodes that draw almost evenly from all three seasons of this awesome show. There's only one episode here actually set on Halloween ("Scaredy Pants"), but some of the others do have a related theme. For example, "Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost" and "I was a Teenage Gary". Not to mention there's the hilarious "Band Geeks" and not one but two episodes featuring Plankton, which is always good. As I said it's not the content, it's the representation. Considering all of these episodes will be available on the Season sets I have to recommend that be the way you get them. The "Halloween" DVD offers 3 episodes from Season 1, 3 from Season 2, and 4 from Season 3. For a casual fan wanting a good taste of some choice Spongebob, I would say pick it up, but for us Bikini Bottom loyalists and wanna be residents, the complete Season box sets are the only way to swim!

Here are the episodes (next to each is the season number):
01. Scaredy Pants (1)
02. Immitation Krabs (2)
03. Frankendoodle (3)
04. I was a Teenage Gary (1)
05. Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost (1)
06. The Secret Box (2)
07. Band Geeks (2)
08. Welcome to the Chum Bucket (3)
09. My Pretty Seahorse (3)
10. Idiot Box (3)

Halloween Traditions - Where did it all start?
Why do we dress up in Halloween costumes, bob for apples, carve pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns, and tell ghost stories on this night?

Our traditions of Halloween can generally be traced to the time of the Celtic civilization and their annual celebration following harvest time. The Celts were a group of people that lived in the area near the British Isles around 400 B.C.

Each year the Celts would hold a celebration at the end of harvest. The festival was held near the end of October which they called “Samhain” which literally means “summer’s end”. Samhain marks one of the two major “doorways” of the Celtic year. October 31, lies exactly between the Autumn equinox and the winter solstice. It is theorized that these ancient people with their reliance on astrology thought this was a very potent time for magic and communion with spirits. The Celts believed all laws of space and time were suspended during this time allowing the spirit world to intermingle with the living. In later years it is thought that the tradition of wearing costumes, evolved as people would disguise themselves from the spirits in order to keep from being possessed.

Why do we trick-or-treat?
Trick or treating actually is an American tradition, but it may have had it's origins also with the ancient Irish. During their annual harvest festival they would leave food at altars and doorsteps as a way of saying thank you to the Gods and to appease spirits. Candles were lit and left in windows to help guide ancestors and loved ones home. Apples were buried along roadsides for spirits who had no descendants to provide for them. There are other theories as well, but nevertheless this does provide some insight as to why we trick-or-treat today.

So there you go, that's how the Halloween tradition began! Keep the Halloween tradition going with LTM Party Halloween costumes, for adults, children, teens, and Halloween decorations for the perfect Halloween party.
