Halloween Costumes:
Turn and Learn (My Turn Books) (Board book)
Book Description
Each page features a bouncy rhyme that signals what's missing
in the picture. On the page with a cute, hatless witch, the text
reads: "Help this witch find the hat that's right, and you
will see a scary sight!" When you dial up a witch's black
hat, a puff of steam appears above her bubbling cauldron.
The Baby Book: Everything You Need to Know About Your
Baby from Birth to Age Two (Revised and Updated Edition) (Paperback)
Amazon.com
In their excellent (and hefty) resource guide, The Baby Book,
attachment parenting specialists William Sears and Martha Sears
have provided new parents with their approach to every aspect
of baby care basics, from newborns to toddlers. Attachment parenting
is a gentle, reasonable approach to parenting that stresses bonding
with your baby, responding to her cues, breastfeeding, "wearing"
your baby, and sharing sleep with your child. For those parents
who worry about negative effects of this attention, the Sears
say, "Spoiling is what happens when you leave something (or
some person) alone on the shelf--it spoils."--This text refers
to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
From Publishers Weekly
William and Martha Sears, a pediatrician and a registered nurse
respectively, team up with two of their doctor sons to update
their 1993 guide to "attachment parenting." Advocating
a "high-touch style of parenting to balance the high-tech
life of the new millennium," the authors teach new parents
how to bond with their babies through seven fundamental behaviors,
including breastfeeding, "babywearing" and setting proper
boundaries. When parents keep close to their babies by bringing
them into bed at night and picking them up when they cry, the
infants develop better, the authors argue; rather than becoming
spoiled, they become more healthy and independent. From tips for
a healthy birth, getting your baby to sleep and feeding him the
"right fats," to information about early health concerns,
the major steps in infant development and troublesome but typical
toddler behavior, the authors of this comprehensive volume (who
share their own parenting experiences along the way) are assured
and reassuring experts.

Review: Good for some things
As an involved father, I thought that it would be good idea for
me to read the same references that my wife did. I was disappointed
after reading Dr. Sears' book. According to this book, my role
in the care and rearing of my child is relegated to being secondary
to that of my wife's, "Father creates a supportive environment
that allows mother to devote her energy to the baby (pg.8)".
The role that I am to play in my baby's care is defined in pages
8, 43, 272, and 350 (paperback edition) out of a book that has
689 pages.
To his credit, Dr. Sears does provide some good practical advice
on some childrearing issues, which is why I would give it 2 stars.
However, I find the overall tone of this to be extremely patronizing
and to be totally dismissive of the fact that fathers are sometimes
the primary caregivers to children. This book has a very strong
bias towards the traditional mom-stays-at-home-and-father-goes-to-work
household. If some families decide to follow this template, by
no means would I criticize them for following what they believe
to be the best for their children and families. I do not have
a bias against this.
However, what I am also rather upset about
(in addition to my relegation to a secondary role in my child's
upbringing) is Dr. Sears' subtle and backhanded criticism of as
well as lack of support for families that do not follow the traditional
route. Given his pediatric practice, the number of books that
he has written, the boards that he is on, it is obvious that Dr.
Sears himself has devoted very little time personally to the raising
of his children and instead, has given the majority of the child-rearing
duties to his wife. Despite being an RN, I cannot believe that
Mrs. Sears worked much professionally, given that she is the primary
caregiver for 8 children.
Being a physician myself, I know that there
is no way that Dr. Sears can accomplish all of his professional
duties and discharge all of his responsibilities and still have
a great deal of time for directly caring for his children. Personally,
I chose to take a position where I could cut back on the number
of days that I work so that I could take care of my daughter while
my wife can pursue her career as well as be a good mother. This
arrangement has worked well for all of us. But had I not reassured
my wife that it would work out, she would have had a huge amount
of unneccessary guilt engendered by this book with its biases
and hidden agenda. I feel sorry for mothers and families that
read this book, didn't have the options that we had, and felt
incredible guilt that they were somehow shortchanging their children.
Perhaps Dr. Sears' family does not need two incomes, but I know
many families do (an idea he pooh-poohs on page 374)and they make
hard choices. The last thing that these families need is an authority
figure that either openly and subtly disapproves of their choices.
Review: Mixed Review
Dr. Sears' book contains valuable discussions of contemporary
parenting issues that cannot be found in other standard parenting
books, including a comprehensive discussion of breastfeeding techinques
and chapters on "baby-wearing" (using a sling) and on
"nighttime parenting," including sharing a bed with
your baby. As first time parents interested in these subjects,
we found the book very useful. Unfortunately, the book is marred
by three serious flaws. First, Dr. Sears -- although including
frequent mention of the role of fathers (which many books do not)
-- appears to believe in the "natural" primacy of the
mother-baby relationship. Our baby's father felt quite slighted
by many of Dr. Sears' comments in this regard. Further, Dr. Sears'
views simply do not reflect reality in many modern households.
In a similar vein, Dr. Sears' book contains a strong subtext that
it would be better for the child if its mother did not work outside
of the home. Second, Dr. Sears is rather cavalier in his use of
medical studies. When they support his theories, he refers to
them extensively without mentioning contrary studies and results,
no matter how well-accepted. When study results do not support
Dr. Sears' views, he tosses them aside by suggesting that one
can find a study to support any theory. Third, Dr. Sears' tone
is so didactic that the parent who chooses not to follow his advice
runs the risk of feeling guilty. In short, the book contains valuable
advice that cannot be easily found elsewhere, but the first-time
parent would be wise to take Dr. Sears with a grain of salt!
Review: Love the Sears approach
This is a great book for anyone who is into or interested in the
attachment parenting approach. The book is well-written and well
organized and provides a lot of useful and interesting information.
The book is long and goes over a lot of different topics, but
the way it is put together makes it easy to either read it straight
through or go right to the topic that you want to read about.
Review
This book covers most questions a parent faces during pregnancy
and the first years after birth.
It's not a difficult book, and it's an easy read, making it palatable
for even the most ordinary parent out there, i.e. the threshold
is not very high.
The book everyone should read instead of
"what to expect when you're expecting".
I recommend 3 reads to cover all your parenting basics; This book,
'The discpline book' also written by Sears, and 'Our babies ourselves',
an anthropologic approach.
Review: baby book
Great reference guide for first time parents. Even if you do not
believe in their style of parenting (attachment), there is still
a bunch of valuable information. Take the information that you
find useful. My husband is a stay at home dad and he found this
book very cool.
Review: Compassionate Parenting!
This book is filled with wisdom based on professional and personal
experience of the authors, and has been indespensible for our
new family! I don't understand the negative reviewers' stance
on the childrearing advice this book offers (birth-bonding, breastfeeding,
babywearing, bedding close to your baby, belief in the signal
value of your babies cries, and balance and boundaries). This
book has shown my husband and I how to really know our baby, to
not be afraid to fall in love with him, to hold and bond with
him, and to respond appropriately to his cries. I am amazed that
some reviewers seem to find this style of parenting enslaving!
I guess they expect a tiny infant to adapt to the parent's schedule
and lifestyle as quickly as possible without regard to a baby's
cognitive development and emotional needs. My husband and I consider
it a great privledge and honor to have children, and are happy
to temporarily put aside our wants to parent our child, who will
only be a baby for a short time. This is not "martyr mothering",
but understanding, as a mature adult, that babyhood is a special
(and short!) time to lay a foundation of trust and security. I
am happy that our family will look back upon the baby days as
a time of love, bonding, and learning about each other and not
a time of endless crying, not knowing/understanding what my baby
needs, and pining for when he's finally older!
I seriously doubt that some of the reviewers even read the book,
because many have so misqouted and made-up things that they claim
Dr. Sears said or advocates. For instance, of course the book
does not say that your child will be stupid if you don't breastfeed
{how absurd!}, never is it said that fathers are not be involved
in parenting {ALL THROUGHOUT the book it speaks to the importance
of fathers being involved in all aspects of parenting- and can
do everything advocated except actually breastfeed!} and it never
says to simply plop your infant in an adult bed inbetween two
adults with big blankets and pillows!
Most likely, your child will not, as one reviewer says, one day
simply announce that he/she is ready to sleep in their own room.
But what is not true is that the longer you let the nursing and
rocking to sleep go on the harder it will be to break. There IS
a NATURAL progression to the point of sleeping on their own and
this book shows how a child comes to that point over time (it's
called weaning- which is the most healthy way to develop true
independance in a human child).
Most importantly, what this book expresses beautifully is how
to develop a strong relationship with your child based on love,
trust and security. It advocates trusting your instincts and shows
the parent how to really be the expert on your own child.
This style of parenting results in having a strong emotional investment
in your child, which is one of the best experiences life has to
offer!
And by the way- you do not have to be the kind of person who "churns
their own butter" to follow the advice in this book; my huband
and I are both professionals, he an IT executive and I an interior
designer, and follow everything this book suggests and have found
it to be very rewarding. (Although churning butter sounds like
it might be a fun thing to try!)
My Halloween Sound Book (First Holiday
Books) (Board book)
"Put on your costume - it's time to go trick-or-treating!..."
Book Description
From black cats to jack-o"-lanterns, this shaped
board book is a perfect introduction to Halloween symbols. Just
scary enough to give toddlers a thrill, this book features all
kinds of gruesome treats to eat, fun costumes to wear, and spooky
decorations to make, as well as the animals you might meet on
October 31! A shimmer of glitter on every spread adds magical
sparkle to the photographic illustrations, and a sound module
of five fun and frightful sounds will prepare young children for
the scariest night of the year.
Review: My Baby Daughter Loves This Book!
I bought this for my daughter when she was 2 months (okay, I bought
it for ME because it was so cute). We really started to read it
and get into it when she was about 6 months. She would get into
my lap and as I would read, she would push the button to hear
the sound. She is more into this book/toy than anything else she
has. I am buying another one since it is now broken (the button
makes strange noises when you push it). I highly recommend it!
The sounds are great and the pictures are big and easy to see.
Review: Toddler loves this book!
This is one of the few books I've paid full price for in a long
time. It was worth it. My 2 year old son loves this book, we read
it over & over. The sounds are pretty good. We especially
like the spooky music & the one with windw blowing. I have
tons of halloween books including about 20 board books for my
toddler. This is one of our favorites.
Touch and Feel Halloween (Board book)
Amazon.com
Touch the pumpkin's waxy orange skin. Stroke the velvet
coat of a pint-sized wizard. Halloween is a time of sensory delights,
and this chunky little board book celebrates some spine-chilling
tactile sensations, like a scruffy pirate's beard and the silky
black fur of a witch's cat. Young readers brought up on Pat the
Bunny will love feeling the various textures of Halloween, and
may be inspired with new ideas for this year's costume. DK's trademark
crisp photos against a white background are always a pleasure
to see, especially with the accompanying large, simple text. Colorful
pictures of children in costume, treasure chests, jack-o'-lanterns,
and, of course, candy, will put readers in the right mood for
the spookiest night of the year. (Baby to preschool) --Emilie
Coulter
Book Description
This engaging novelty book will charm and delight young readers.
Featuring a selection of thrilling Halloween-themed textures,
each title offers a new tactile sensation. Contrast the "silky"
black cat with the "scaly" snake or compare the "bristly"
pirate's beard to the scarecrow's "hairy" jacket. Large,
simple text and colorful photographs of objects ranging from familiar
to scary and exotic provide a fun learning experience.
Review: Toddler Perfect!!
My daughter loves this! We took it to her school and they are
all loving it.
Review: A HALLOWEEN TOUCH AND FEEL
We have several of the touch and feel books in our home and our
two year old has always enjoyed them. Kids love touching different
things and the touch and feel books give them several different
textures to work on. My two year old just loves Halloween. He'll
ask to read Halloween books all year round.
As with the other touch and feel books,
this one has vivid and color photography to accompany the various
textures your child gets to touch including a pumpkin, Pirates
Beard, the fur of a black cat, and a wizards robe. One can, I
suppose question the educational value of these books but why
must all books be educational? Bottom line is that all of these
books are fun for kids to read and touch.
Review: Best touch and feel book
My 16 mo. old daughter has at least 10 of these books, and this
one is her favorite. The texture parts are large, unlike the nfl
book, and she loves the kitty page! There are also pages of a
wizard, a scarecrow, a pumpkin, and a pirate.
Review: Our PUMPKIN loves this book!
A Kid's Review
Our 10 month-old daughter just LOVES this book. She reads it every
night & especially enjoys touching the pirate's ROUGH beard...(it
probably reminds her of her daddy!) She has several others from
this series and really takes notice of the crisp, clear, true-to-life
pictures. It's a sure thing! We already got the Christmas one
for her! Buy it. Today.
Dora the Explorer - Dora's Halloween (2004)
Review: Trick or Treat- Fun for all.
My daughter loves Dora the Explorer. She is only 22 months
old and can sing most of the songs. Dora has helped her to learn
new words- some of them spanish. This DVD has four really good
episodes. I was a little apprehensive to buy a holiday themed
Dora - But, I am glad I did. The first episode the Halloween one,
had my daughter singing Trick or Treat, and dancing- this one
has good songs. There is a episode about Baby Dino - and saying
dinosauer. The last episode is Por Favor - So guess what my daughter
was saying. It is hard to find this many good episode on one DVD.
Enjoy.
Review: Another hit by the makers
of Dora the Explorer!
My family is not big on Halloween, in fact my husband really does
not like it at all, but he absolutely loved this movie. It has
such cute songs on it, and the costumes are just so cute! The
other three episodes are also very good, and my daughter loved
all of them. I am glad that I had the chance to share this DVD
with her. I hope everyone enjoys this DVD.
Review: Very cute!
Reviewer: jennifer (Houston, Tx United States) - See all my reviews
The Halloween episode is so cute and my 2 1/2 year old boy loves
it. I'd much rather him watch stuff like this than the new stuff
that is out like Yu Gi Oh..YUCK!
The other three episodes arnt about Halloween
but are still cute Dora cartoons.
Review: Dora's halloween
I was very happy with the Dora halloween dvd. I have been trying
to find movies to sort of introduce halloween to my 18 month old.
Well I dont know if it has helped introduce halloween to him but
he cant stop talking about dora. Dora this and dora that! Its
all he wants to watch now. He has many diferent volumes as well.
Review: spooky dora
As always Dora is great. I was happily surprized at how much spanish
they use in this movie. good halloween fun, not scary
Review: Great Adventure with Dora
and friends!!!
I bought this DVD for my daughter Amanda~~a tried and true Dora
fanatic!!!! She LOVED the Episode "Boo" I, however,
had one problem with it, which resulted in me giving it only 4
stars rather than 5.....In the "Boo" episode, Dora and
Boots happen upon a little monster. They invite him to go trick
or treating with them, the only catch is, the lil monster must
be home by the time both hands on the clock are on the 12. Last
time I checked, when it's dark outside, that would mean that they
are out trick or treating until 12AM!!!!!! Don't get me wrong,
I'm all for a night of trick or treating fun, but the preschoolers
tht I know are pretty much finished trick or treating after around
9pm! Besides that, this DVD is one of Dora's better ones! Amanda
loves it!
Review: Pretty good, but not perfect
First, be warned...only one of the four 20-minute Dora episodes
on this DVD has anything to do with Halloween. The first segment
is about Halloween and my two year old loves it! But the remainder
of the episodes, including one about a wizard who is missing his
wand, are just average. But I still give it four stars just because
the Halloween episode is so good.

Review: Room on a Broom Excellent
Fun!
Funny, that this is the first book my husband picks up every night
to read to our daughter. He asked me to buy all of her books!
He loves her style and the illustrations are excellent. My daughter
loves this book and it is not scary at all! Buy this book and
her others you will not be disappointed!
Review: Room on the Broom
Our children loved this book, as did we!!! One of our all time
favorites ~ and one that will be enjoyed, and cherished between
Oct. 31st through Oct. 30th!!! There is nothing not to like...
nothing.
Review: Wonderful rhythmic read
My 1 1/2 year old loves this book, as do I. The illustrations
are wonderful and it has a great rhythm for reading aloud. The
story is wonderful and I plan to order more books by this author/illustrator
duo. I highly recommend!
Review: Buyer Beware: 2 Different
Book Versions
My 3.5-year-old son loves this book. The illustrations are clever
and charming and the simple, repetitive rhymes are perfect for
young listeners. It is a joy to read aloud. It is one of my top
10 books to give as a gift. A witch and her cat are flying around
and encounter three other animals that would like to know if there
is room on the broom for an animal like them. The reply is always
an enthusiastic "Yes!" (Now who wouldn't like a ride
on a broom?) This book is generally not found on bookstore shelves
because it is considered a Halloween book, but it is fun reading
any time of year. After numerous renewals from the library, we
purchased our own copy. (We also own and highly recommend "The
Spiffiest Giant in Town.")
When our Amazon ordered book came in the mail, my husband read
it and noticed that his favorite line said by the dragon, "witch
without fries" is not in the book! We like the original verse,
"The dragon drew near with a glint in his eyes, and said,
"Just this once I'll have witch without fries." That
has been replaced with "The dragon drew nearer and started
to drool. He said, "I won't let you go- do you think I'm
a fool?" WHY??? Why are there two versions??? Are fries not
politically correct? How sad. Look, I don't offer fries to my
kid (and I won't eat them) but it is a funny (and more dramatic)
line and it should remain in ALL copies. We are going to copy
the "witch without fries" part onto a Post-it note and
put it where it should be...inside the book.
Review: Room for one more?, September
13, 2002
What a fun book for Halloween or anytime!
The book offers a gentle lesson in cooperation as the animals
work together to rescue their friend. (It's a dirty job, but somebody
had to do it--you'll see what I mean when you read the book.)
The rhymes work well for reading aloud and
the vividly colored illustrations are full of details that little
children will want to look at again and again.
For the most part the characters are smiling
(except, of course, when the dragon tries to eat the witch). Even
the youngest child will not feel threatened by either the characters
or the plot.
I have a feeling this is going to be the
featured story at my Halloween story hours this year.
Review: Such a fun and clever book!!!!
Reviewer: Carla Loughran (Austin, TX United States) - See all

My girls, ages two and four, love this book and so do I! It's
a clever rhyme and a sweet story that teaches a subtle lesson
about how doing things for others can ultimately benefit oneself.
I also appreciate how everything is not spelled out for the reader
and there are some portions near the end that the child has to
figure out. Very clever -- my favorite Halloween book this year.
Nevertheless, this book is not Halloween-specific, and is definitely
appropriate for any time of the year.
Review: Room on the Broom
This is a great book. My 1 1/2 year old loves it and my husband
and I love to read it to her. It is delightful in both the verse
and the illistrations. My daughter carries it about the house,
sometimes she wants it to be read to her and other times she'd
rather look at the pictures and read it herself. I have sent it
as a gift and recomended it highly. Sometimes when my daughter
is napping I pick it up and read it to myself.
Review: Great Halloween book
My 3 yr. old loves this book! It is actually a little big for
him but the pictures are wonderful and the story really keeps
him captivated! The storyline is funny and my little guy just giggles
every time we read it. This is a book I will hold onto for years
and pull out every Halloween! I have already recommended it to
a few friends.

Easy Halloween Costumes for Kids
Review:
This is a beautiful book and so user-friendly! It was great to
avoid frantically running around from store to store, since this
book has such simple patterns and shortcuts where you don't even
have to sew, as well as last-minute panic solutions. The 100 different
costume choices (from well-known bunnies, pirates and witches
to the amusing gingerbread house, octopus, swamp monster) will
last the Halloween life of my kids (and probably their kids too!),
making this book quite the bargain. Making and creating the costumes
was a fun family project and encouraged everyone's imagination.
I like the idea that a portion of the proceeds of the book go
to UNICEF.
I have made the squeleton costume for my 5 years old and it was
a success. It was a great initiation to costume making for me.It
also is easy to understand and do by them selfs for older kids.
It is our favorite bedtime story.
Sam (age 5) and Kate (age 3) have been so excited about this book
"reading" every page over and over and taking it to bed with them!
Kate has memorized the names of each costume and has been able
to ask for and describe a combination of costumes that she has
imagined for herself!
This book is wonderful for inspiring creative imagination and
the costume tips and patterns ARE easy and versatile enough for
you to whip up an original costume with very simple inexpensive
ingredients or with whatever you have in the house even at the
very last minute!
I am very proud of Sam, who after much gleeful "study" of this
book with his sister, decided to make his own costume modifying
one of the ideas in this book - how satisfying for him to march
in his school costume parade wearing an original costume that
started from an idea from this book and made pretty much all by
himself (hey, no sewing, or even glue gun needed for that one!)
I'm sure we will get lots more year round dress-up inspiration
from this truly "Illegally Easy Halloween Costumes for Kids" book
to come... my mind is already brewing up some winter dress-up
Birthday Party ideas!
In Illegally Easy Halloween Costumes For Kids, Halloween costume
designer Leila Peltosaari showcases one hundred easy-to-make costumes
complete with matching treat bags and accessories. The simple,
step-by-step instructions are enhanced with detailed full-color
photos and illustrations. The color-coded, easy patterns for 3
to 12 year olds are well-organized and feature a wealth of "no-sew"
shortcuts and "last-minute" solutions. Highly recommended for
even the most novice costumer, Illegally Easy Halloween Costumes
For Kids is enhanced further with a history of Halloween, safety
tips, and anecdotal background stories. With designs ranging from
traditional and storybook characters to animals and clowns, to
celestial beings and cultural tributes, most of the costumes can
be assembled without a sewing machine and in only one evening.
Many of the costumes are made form Polarfleece (a perfect Halloween
fabric which is soft and lightweight, slightly stretchy, warm,
versatile, with no hemming or seam finished needed -- and hotglues
like a dream!). Although specifically targeted for the Halloween
holiday, these are delightful outfits that can well serve for
costume parties and school plays at any time of year!
Illegally Easy Halloween Costumes for Kids is the best I have
seen on this topic. The full color photographs of the costumes,
complete with makeup, are spectacular. The directions are thorough
and easy to follow. Any of these costumes would be a terrific
for Halloween and the ideas could also be used for making costumes
for plays or other productions. At the price of store bought costumes
or patterns, this book is a bargain, as it contains 100 costumes
and many additional ideas. You won't be disappointed!
Family Fun Tricks and Treats
Halloween is a time of transformation and not for just humans
who don the face paint and masks!
Reviews
There are a number of Halloween books out on the market for decorating,
baking and costume making, but this is one of the few that actually
has something new in it!
The crafts are clever, but actually look
doable wtih things you might already have on hand. The costumes
ideas are fun and innovative, the food ideas are also really cute,
but not overly-complicated. While some classic ideas never die,
this book puts a nice twist on things like "body parts" games.
Of course, the ideas come from the monthly
magazine that Disney produces, Family Fun, and if you get the
magazine, you'll have already seen alot of these things in print
or on their website. Still, the book is nicely layed-out, easy
to flip through and a good resource of party and costume ideas
for both kids and their grown-ups.
This book is an awesome resource for make-at-home costumes and
decorations. The ideas are so cute, easy to follow, and where
else can you find a recipe for slime?
This was great! My daughter & I love Halloween and when we
saw this we bought it right away. There are so many wonderful
ideas. A must have! There were a lot of spooky things to do with
foods and great little ideas for those little helpers to decorate
your home with lots of memories! You have to get this one!

The Halloween Handbook : 447 Costumes (Paperback)
Book Description
It's dress-up for grown-ups, and the liveliest, most imaginative
collection of Halloween costume ideas--447 costume ideas to be
exact--from two hip, inveterate lovers of all things Halloween
. . . plus dozens of other ideas for enjoying the holiday.
Bridie Clark and Ashley Dodd are the dynamic
duo, in or out of capes. For every level of interest, time--and
irony--they offer suggestions. There's the ultra-quick: Pin several
pair of underwear to a shirt, and voilà, A Chest of Drawers.
With a bit more time, wrap yourself in aluminum foil and don a
beret--mmm, French Kiss. There are Angels and Devils, all with
variations (add roller skates to your Satan costume, and go as
Hell on Wheels). Come Hither costumes--Lady Godiva, Chippendales
Dancer, Stripper Emerging from a Cake. Celeb sightings, from the
Dalai Lama to Madonna (six Madonnas, actually, from all of her
phases). Costumes for couples--Sweethearts Caught on Lover's Lane,
Fred and Wilma Flintstone--and costumes for whole groups of friends,
including how to appear as the Sopranos or the hapless castaways
on Gilligan's Island. And for the children, check out Nursery
Rhymes, Fairy Tales, and Other Costumes for the Young and Young
at Heart.
Finally, for the friend who just can't bear
the thought of dressing up but still wants to join the fun, suggest
the Time Traveler from the Day Before Halloween.

Review: Showcases 447 do-it-yourself costume concepts
The collaborative effort of Halloween costume experts and enthusiasts
Bridie Clark and Ashley Dodd, The Halloween Handbook: Dress-Up
For Grown-Ups showcases 447 imaginative, easy-to-make, do-it-yourself
costume concepts. From traditional favorites such as Wonder Woman
or Peter Pan, to more eyebrow-raising unique costumes like the
One-Night Stand (the costumegoer appears as an actual stand with
lampshade over the head, bra and pantyhouse dangling on the tablecloth)
or the Green Card (wearing a large green sandwich board humorously
displaying a parody what a real green card looks like). Black-and-white
photographs illustrate fun, zany, sometimes edgy ideas with practical
suggestions to efficiently and frugally make a Halloween guise
to remember. Especially recommended not only for Halloween, but
as a source of ideas for costume parties year round or even school
and community theater apparel.

Review: Clever Costume Creating
for Halloween
I found this book to be very enlightning for ideas on creating
Halloween costumes. It is full of so many good tips, many requiring
a minimal amount of effort in putting together a costume. I would
recommend this book to many, both young and old and particularly
to parents who every year need to come up with a new and unique
costume for their children to dress for Halloween.
Review: Clever Costume Creating
for Halloween
Suzanne Singleton has certainly outdone herself on this release.
Clever Costume Creating for Halloween is jam-packed with unique
ideas for easy to make, NO SEW costumes. The illustrations help
you visualize the overall effect and the instructions are packed
with appropriate props and accessories.
Although I am an artist and consider myself to be pretty creative,
when it comes to Halloween costumes I go blank. The creative part
of me wants to do something original, unique. I definitely could
never bring myself to buy those mass produced, plastic-masked
versions available in the stores. When I flipped through Suzanne
Singleton's book, my mind began to race with all the possiblities.
I found myself thinking, "Why didn't I think of that? This
is sooooooo clever!" Now my only problem is choosing which
idea to try first!
